16-year-olds And the vote

Malta Independent Wednesday, 3 September 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I can’t understand the reasoning behind Labour leader Joseph Muscat’s idea to extend the right to vote to young people aged 16.

Sixteen-year-olds should be concentrating on passing their secondary school examinations rather than politics. They are not mature enough to pass judgement on local councils, let alone on politics in general.

I am sure that Dr Muscat will have to re-think his proposal when he realises that it is not right to involve 16-year-olds in the political system.
