Well, well, well. Have I got news for Daphne: In the village of Mgarr (Malta, that is; the one in Gozo is a port), where I grew up and lived till I migrated to Australia, one could observe changes in some aspects of the Mosta village dialect (Mgarr was an offshoot of Mosta, more or less) as one moved through the streets in front of the church, to those behind the church. Seriously! At least for some of the words.
I’m not a gambler, but I could bet on it that the same would apply to a number of other places in Malta.
