The quote by Prof Maurice Grech, MCAST Principal/CEO, (TMID, 4 September) is not faithful to Prof Grech’s message that was delivered during the press conference to launch the Diploma in Manufacturing Excellence held the previous day.

Prof Grech stated that: “Students who finish the Diploma in Manufacturing Excellence are awarded a formal academic qualification at level 4 according to the Malta Qualification Framework. This enables them to meet the entry requirement for a variety of Higher National Diploma courses offered by MCAST. The diploma has been accredited by City and Guilds and will serve as a passport that will enable successful students to proceed even further in their studies.

“The Diploma in Manufacturing Excellence is targeted primarily at those employees in industry who have acquired, through informal and non-formal routes, those skills and competences needed by industry but who have not followed formal education and are interested in sharpening their skills and advance in the career ladder.

“In addition the college is already planning ahead and working on a higher level course for students that successfully complete the Diploma in Manufacturing Excellence”.
