G. Mallia, residing at San Gwann, asks “how Gianpula, an open-air venue, intends fulfilling its commitment to carry on operating within the confines of the law and in full appreciation of the rights of all residents in nearby villages to a good night’s sleep” (TMIS, 7 September).

Clearly, Mr Mallia is implying that open-air venues are incompatible with sustainable entertainment.

It may interest Mr Mallia to know that last May, on our own initiative, prior to the commencement of our summer operation on Friday and Saturday nights, Gianpula initiated a professional study into what mitigating measures, within our control, including the lowering of volumes, planting of trees, heightening of boundary walls and erection of sound panels, could be employed to reduce possible inconvenience to neighbouring villages.

Once the report is completed, I am all in favour of the commissioned sound expert explaining his findings to Mr Mallia, and any other interested person, by means of a site inspection at Gianpula and at Mr Mallia’s residence.
