I refer to Michael Scicluna’s letter titled “Mepa please take action” (TMIS, 14 September).

Contrary to what Mr Scicluna said, and I quote, “We did not get anywhere even after writing to the Prime Minister, who is responsible for Mepa, the Leader of the Opposition and the Chairman of Alternattiva Demokratika, to make them aware of the situation,” Alternattiva Demokratika took immediate interest in the issue. A letter from Mr Scicluna addressed to Professor Arnold Cassola reached the party’s office on 28 August. AD’s Chairman received the letter in the first week of September and I was personally delegated to contact Mr Scicluna and arrange for a meeting with both himself and all other affected residents. After a number of telephone calls I managed to contact Mr Scicluna and it was agreed in the course of the conversation that he talk to all the neighbours involved and come up with a date for a meeting between Professor Cassola and the residents.

If anyone is to be blamed for “not getting anywhere”, it is definitely not Alternattiva Demokratika. Although AD was the last to be made aware of the situation, prompt action was taken. It would be greatly appreciated if Mr Scicluna clarifies this, at least with his neighbours.
