Great idea Jane (Clean Up-Malta, Jane Azzopardi, TMID 17 September). I tend to do this myself when I’m there (in Malta) on holiday, especially if I see another tourist dropping something. I never say anything to them, but I make sure they see me picking it up and putting it in the nearest bin.

In Northern Ireland we tend to get school children involved in these clean-ups too.

They get half a day or whatever off school, which they love, but in that half-day they learn a lesson for life in how to treat the environment.
