Jose Mourinho has already had several run-ins with his coaching rivals and the media since arriving in Italy. Now he's facing the wrath of Inter's fans.
The crowd at the San Siro whistled at Inter players after Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen in the Champions League - three days after Inter were beaten 1-0 by AC Milan in the city derby.
"They didn't bother me," Mourinho said of the whistles. "The fans are always right. The most important thing for a football club is its fans, and I've learned to respect that."
On Tuesday, Mourinho became agitated when he was besieged by questions about the derby, telling a roomful of journalists that it was too easy to criticize the line-up after the game.
One journalist replied that he would help out with the pre-game line-ups if Mourinho gave him part of his e9 million salary, to which Mourinho snapped back, "It's e11 million, and I get e14 million if you count sponsorships."'
Inter issued a statement on Wednesday saying that none of the figures were correct.
"Fortunately, I think everyone understood that he was just joking," Inter president Massimo Moratti told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "But right now certain jokes are not taken very well."
For today's game against struggling Bologna, Mourinho will have to deal with a defence wrecked by injuries.
Marco Materazzi left the Bremen game after 19 minutes with a right thigh problem and was replaced by Nicolas Burdisso, and both defenders are suspended for the Bologna game.
Christian Chivu has a thigh problem after playing three games in a week following his return from a shoulder injury in June, and Maxwell is also out.
Fortunately for Inter, newly promoted Bologna are in even worse state, having lost four straight games after upsetting Milan in their Serie A opener.
Milan lost their opening two league games but are now riding high after the derby win. The Rossoneri take a three-game winning streak into their visit to last-place Cagliari tomorrow.
Cagliari coach Massimiliano Allegri is in danger of losing his job after opening with five defeats. The Sardinian club has scored just one goal and conceded ten.
AS Roma also had a rough start but are starting to turn things around.
The Giallorossi beat Atalanta 2-0 last weekend and Brazilian forward Julio Baptista came off the bench to score twice and rally Roma to a 3-1 win over Bordeaux in the Champions League on Wednesday.
With Francesco Totti still struggling to regain his fitness following knee surgery at the end of last season, Roma has so far relied solely on Mirko Vucinic in attack.
Vucinic scored his first goal of the season against Atalanta and now coach Luciano Spalletti has found another option in Baptista, who recently arrived from Real Madrid.
Baptista had a slow start due to injury.
"Julio arrived at the last minute, then he had that injury. He just needed some time to adjust," Spalletti said. "These goals will give him confidence."
Roma visit Siena tomorrow.
Surprise Serie A leaders Lazio and Serie A scoring leader Mauro Zarate host Lecce to open the weekend's action today.
Zarate has scored six goals in five games since joining Lazio on loan from Al-Sadd in Qatar.
Lazio lead with 12 points, Napoli are next with 11 and Udinese, Inter and Catania are tied with 10 each. Milan and Juventus are in a four-way tie with nine points apiece.
Napoli visit Genoa in a matchup of Argentine strikers Diego Milito and Ezequiel Lavezzi. Milito already has four goals and Lavezzi is scoreless so far after notching eight last season.
Juventus host Palermo after coming back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with BATE Borisov in the Champions League on Tuesday, courtesy of two goals from Vincenzo Iaquinta.
Fiorentina will try to jumpstart their struggling attack at Chievo Verona. The Viola are coming off a 0-0 draw with Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League.
