The Nail on the head

Malta Independent Tuesday, 14 October 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

Daphne Caruana Galizia hit the nail on the head with this article (Hawn x’ismek, TMID, 9 October).

As an employer and a person who runs more than one company, I spend a lot of time telling staff how not to address people – and you know what? Clients are startled. On more than one occasion, we had clients who thought that we were pulling their legs by addressing them as Mrs or Mr.

In this aspect, Maltese society changed radically and we have two choices – either reverting (or trying to) back to the good old days or adapt.

Personally I feel that we are too far gone and in future, unless a concerted effort at par with the effort to change football into futbol and mobile into mobajl, we would become one single Maltese ghetto.

As regards your Italian experience?? Been there, done that!

Daphne, just keep chipping away at this particular stone, you never know when you might crack it.
