New Term at KMS Skolasport starts on Saturday

KMS Skolasport, organised by Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport (KMS) and sponsored by Kellogg’s for the tenth consecutive year will be starting this coming Saturday.

Courses in Foundation and Participation programmes are organised for children between 5 and 10 years of age, while more than 20 sport disciplines are offered at different venues in Malta to young teens whose age varies from 11 years to 16 years.

The Foundation Programme is designed to start the very young children with movement activities, while the Participation Programme refines the skills of the 8 to 10 year olds offering them various sporting activities and team games.

Both the Foundation and Participation Programmes are held at the four major venues, namely Cottonera Sports Complex, the Marsa Sports Complex, the University Sports Complex at Msida and the new St Benedict’s Sports Complex in Kirkop. This year, due to the large demand KMS has extended its facilities to St. Monica School Gym in Gzira.

Other sport activities for participants aged 11 to 16 years include Aikido, Athletics, Baseball/Softball, Basketball, BMX, Bowling, Cricket, Modern Dance, Dancesport, Football, Go-Karting, Gymnastics, Judo, Handball, Multi sport Adventure, Netball, Rugby, Sailing, Squash, Tennis, Traditional Karate, Volleyball and Weightlifting.

Most sports activities are held on Saturday mornings with the exception of a few disciplines such as Volleyball (Sunday), Modern Dance, Handball and Badminton (Wednesday).

KMS Skolasport has reinforced its philosophy and offers children the opportunity to learn different skills and sporting abilities through an intensive syllabus of physical education and active play.

Its aim is to provide children with a holistic educational programme that improves their future development in a variety of team and individual sport. In fact, many Maltese sport professionals have started their training at KMS Skolasport.

“KMS Skolasport has been the starting point for many Maltese children in their discovery and enjoyment of sport. This is why Kellogg’s, the world’s leading producer of breakfast cereal, has been sponsoring events related with KMS Skolasport for the past decade. Through Kellogg’s sponsorship, we are contributing towards the overall enhancement of KMS Skolasport and to healthier Maltese generations,” said Kellogg’s spokesperson in Malta. all participants will receive a free Kellogg’s t-shirt to wear during their training sessions.

For adults or parents who accompany their children, KMS Skolasport also provides a fitness activity class at the four main sports complexes.

KMS thanked all those families who have applied to take part in the KMS Skolasport Programme, which this year has already exceeded the 1,400 applicants.

While the Foundation and Participation programmes are fully booked, KMS wishes to appeal to all youngsters aged 11yrs – 16yrs not to miss this opportunity and apply for one of more of the various sports disciplines offered.
