Cricket: Marsa CC Win Globalair Summer League

Over the weekend, plenty of cricket was played. On Saturday the final day of the Globair Summer league and Sunday the Marsa Team played against touring side ANT CC from Cyprus.

The first game of the Globalair summer league the Marsa C.C played Krishna C.C, eight points difference between them for the title before the game began. Krishna batted first were off to a great start with Nowell Khosla (39), Alan Kyle (27), Nadeem Ashraf (20) and Malcolm Crabbe (38 not out) set up a total of 142 runs of their allotted overs.

A good score but lost more than four wickets which gave the Marsa team a much needed bonus point. Dave Newton and Ronnie Sacco were the main wicket takers for Marsa with two wickets each.

The Marsa reply was in tatters losing both opening batsmen with low scores. Ronnie Sacco (54 not out) and John Grima (51) saved the innings for the Marsa team which had the team total 128 runs which meant another bonus point.

For Krishna Nowell Khosla and Alan Kyle both took two wickets each. Krishna won the game and earned eight points. The two bonus points which the Marsa team earned were the title winning points.

The second game could well be described as saving the best game for last. It was a humdinger of a game were the Overseas batted first and scored 109 runs with Stuart Lloyd top scoring with 35 runs. For Melita Andy Lenard was the main wicket taker with two.

The Melita reply was well set with Tim Wheeler scoring 33 runs, Anthony Roberts scoring 20 runs and Andy Lenard scoring 28 runs.

Lenard’s dismissal was an amazing one handed catch by Dax Fernandez at mid wicket. There were three wickets left and the scores were a tie.

Dave Judd then did an incredible job by taking the next two wickets to take a hat trick, bringing in last man Mike Conti who missed the following delivery and the wicket keeper did not glove the ball and the batsmen scampered through for the winning single. Melita won the game and ended third on the ladder.

On Sunday the Marsa team took on first timers ANT CC. Marsa batted first and Nowell Khosla opening the batting scored his second hundred against a touring team ending up on 107 runs including 13 fours and three sixes. Malcolm Crabbe scored 87 runs in a massive total of 282 runs. For the visitors Jones was the main wicket taker with three.

In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 136 runs. Barnett top scoring with 50 runs. Sarfraz Ali was the main wicket taker with four wickets. Marsa win the first game, the next game will be played today at 2pm.

On Saturday Marsa take on new touring team Old Bedford Modernian’s CC in a two game series, the second game on Sunday.

On Saturday the nursery/academy will be from 9.30 to 11.30 am.
