Malta champion Alex Borg was on the losing end as he suffered a defeat in his opening match at the amateur world championship in Wels, Austria, yesterday.
He was beaten by India’s Pankaj Advani 4-1.
Compatriot Simon Zammit was also in action against former world champion Kirk Stevens of Canada, but no result was available until the time of going to print.
Last week, Alex Borg took part in the Austria Open at the same venue where the world championships are being held in Wels.
He was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Jimmy Michie, who won the best of five frame match 3-1.
Earlier Borg had won 3-0 in the rounds of Last 48, Last 32 and Last 16 against Henry Killian of New Zealand, Patrick Rosmann of Austria and Robert Burda, also of Austria.
The event was won by Ryan Day, who beat Jamie Cope 6-4 in the final.
