Simon Zammit suffered his first defeat in the 2008 IBSF World Snooker Championships currently being played at Rotaxhalle, Wels in Austria when he lost to Ratchapol Pu-Ob-Orm (formerly James Wattana) of Thailand yesterday morning.
The former main tour player never really hit his best form but found Zammit on a bad day to win the match 4-0. Zammit had won his opening match 4-2 on Tuesday against Frenchman Roger Dumortier
Frame scores, Ratchapol first: 66-23, 71-25, 73-22 and 80-33.
Zammit will play his third match today against Michaeal Collumb of Scotland.
Malta's other player in the Men event, Alex Borg was in action later in the evening when he played Jean-Marc Beauchamp of France and won 4-0. Frame scores, Borg first: 86-30, 77-19, 62-8, 86-5.
This was Borg’s second win in the tournament.
Borg’s next opponent today is Thomas McSorley of Scotland.
Meanwhile, in the Masters event, Tony Mifsud played his first match yesterday and was unlucky to lose 3-2 against Stevie Baillie of Scotland. Mifsud started well when he easily won the first frame and was leading 48-0 in the second. However a bad miss on a pottable red gave the chance to the Scot who fired in a break of 70 to level the match. Mifsud lost also the third on the black before levelling again in the fourth. Baillie then won the deciding frame which could have went both ways after potting match ball pink
