Snooker: Simon Zammit Returns to winning form

Simon Zammit and Tony Mifsud two of three Maltese players taking part in the 2008 IBSF World Snooker Championships currently being played in Wels, Austria, registered important wins in the fourth day of the championship.

Wednesday evening, Malta snooker champion Alex Borg registered his second win from three matches when he beat Jean-Marc Beauchamp of France 4-0. It was a solid performance from the Maltese player who never gave the Frenchman a chance to get into the match. Frame scores, Borg first: 86-30, 77-19, 62-8, 86-5. Borg was in action again last evening when he faced Thomas McSorley of Scotland.

From Group A, Simon Zammit recovered well from the defeat against James Wattana on Wednesday when he beat Michael Collumb of Scotland 4-2. Zammit won the second frame on the black to lead 2-0 before the Scottish won the third for 2-1. Zammit went two up again with three frames to play before he sealed victory in the sixth for 4-2. Frame scores, Zammit first: 71-37, 60-57, 21-61, 62-35, 26-54, 59-23.

Meanwhile, from the Masters championship, Malta's representative Tony Mifsud registered his first win from two outings when he beat Pierric Lahilla of France 3-0. Frame scores, Mifsud first: 63-21, 55-24, 65-18.
