I do hope that as many people as possible have watched Xarabank last Friday. Especially those who are under 35 years and have no clear idea of what living under a Labour government meant. What you saw on Friday night, if you could have the courage to watch it, was the real thing. It was not a soap opera but it was the truth and nothing but the truth. It was certainly not the whole truth. Remember Nardu Debono, Wilfrid Cardona, Lino Cauchi, Raymond Caruana or Karin Grech? Anthony Mifsud had been arrested, tortured and wrongfully charged with corruption and complicity in the notorious escape of two prisoners after “a confession” he made under interrogation at gun point. The fact that Dom Mintoff, who was Prime Minister at that time, has been awarded a substantial sum of money because he has dedicated his long life to defending the causes of oppressed people and who has distinctively contributed to rendering an outstanding human service and who has defended human rights and who has also protected the cause of freedom... leaves you speechless!
But do not forget Dom Mintoff was not asked to sit for any written exam to claim his prize. The reward was handed to him on the strength of a simple assessment!
