I have just heard the news that the flowerbed planted in memory of Queen Victoria, and which has embellished part of Dwejra Lines for more than 30 years, is no more. What a shame! Is this the way we try to instil in our children a love for nature and history of our islands – by destroying instead of enhancing what is part of our heritage?

On 29th October, the Mepa Board decided against keeping this flowerbed, which then had to be removed within six days. What is the idea? What harm was it causing? Hundreds of Maltese and tourists, who frequented the place for many years, appreciated such a beautiful asset both to nature and our historical heritage.

I am perplexed that in this day and age, when it is our responsibility to minimise damage to the environment, destroying a beautiful attraction and replacing it with parking spaces, is incredulous.
