We have been told that the report relating to this system which appeared in last Thursday’s issue, was not correct.
The sum of between 10 million and 12 million euros was not related just to the floodlighting system at the Hibs Ground.
That part of the report should have read as follows:
Information was given about the MFA ambitious project aimed at improving the sports facilities of member clubs and member associations in Malta and Gozo. This project is also being undertaken thanks to funds provided by UEFA and the MFA through a bank loan.
The projects at Melita FC, St. Patrick FC and the Victor Tedesco Stadium have been completed whilst those at Marsaxlokk FC, Pembroke FC and Sannat Football Ground have already started. Civil works for the laying of foundations in connection with the floodlighting project at the Hibernians Football Ground were in hand.
The whole project will cost between ten and twelve million Euro and the MFA is being very meticulous in its plans to allocate funds (e4,000,000) in an equitable way. At the same time it is being cautious that the projects planned by various clubs could be realised.
Applications from about 40 different member clubs vary between major work such as the laying of full-size artificial turf pitches and building of dressing rooms, installation of floodlights and providing other facilities.
The President said that the MFA is satisfied that several clubs have taken the initiative to improve their sports facilities and will encourage them to continue doing so. At the same time, the MFA has to be serious in its evaluation of the specific needs of clubs and will use its objective criteria in assessing these needs.
