Just Business

Malta Independent Tuesday, 25 November 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

I write in reply to a letter by San Laroche (TMID, 21 November), in which she questions why shops are closed in the afternoon.

That is the only part left which made Malta, Malta. I explain. Taking an afternoon nap will slow down one’s business, but by heck, if only the richest of business owners in the USA could afford that! It also invites the whereabouts of that store to slow down, cut down on noise and not value your minutes ticking away by how much money one could make! You see, god above anything else, the dollar, had not reached here yet.

Now it has. Now anytime, any place, any day is worth the money you can make. Even Sunday! We have managed to turn that into any other day of the week. Oh how much money one can make, particularly if it’s Easter or Christmas! The same for Good Friday! We have invented another venue for that too! Turn religious processions in a display of bad taste of Centurions in shining armour just out of Star Wars to sell off as tourist attraction with stalls, numbered seating and reserved parking. It sells!

Don’t worry we are catching up with degeneration quickly!
