Gems Of myopia

Malta Independent Wednesday, 26 November 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

In his pleasure at having his political party in government, Mr Giov. DeMartino is shortsighted (How can we forget?, TMID, 22 November). He makes fun of the unions because of the poor turnout at their demonstration, and attributes that weak showing to workers not wanting “to have anything to do with the privileged union”.

Perhaps the workers did not answer their unions’ call because they are afraid of a vengeful government?

Did that occur to Mr DeMartino?

Perhaps the workers are afraid that even under this “democratic government” they would face retribution for having had the temerity to show what they felt about the heartless electricity and water tariffs? Does Mr DeMartino really believe that Dr Gonzi is different from Mr Mintoff, the Nationalists more democratic than Labour?

Mr DeMartino sends these missives to the media, apparently in the belief they are gems of wisdom. In fact they are gems of myopia.
