Monopoly Malta Arrives

Malta Independent Friday, 28 November 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Malta’s first board game Monopoly Malta has arrived. The press were invited to Express Trailers to witness the opening of the trailer arriving from the Hasbro offices in Germany with 5000 Monopoly Malta boards.

The press were present while the trailer was open and the first board games were brought down. The first board game was then open and guests had the chance to view the 22 localities chosen for the Malta board. Localities from the North, South, Central of Malta and Gozo vary from business areas to villages, towns and rural areas. The board also includes 4 ports instead of the traditional railways. The silent city, Mdina and Malta’s capital city Valletta have been chosen as the top property for our local version of Monopoly. A panel of 16 judges chose the localities based on property evaluation, culture, history and recognition of locality. All 22 localities are considered to be prime spots in the Maltese islands so foreign guests choosing to visit Malta will be viewing some of our most prestigious areas.

A number of chance and community chest cards have also been customised making the game even more enjoyable to play. “Apart from promoting our culture and traditions we wanted to create awareness for one of Malta’s most hardworking NGOs YMCA. One of the Community chest card reads, ‘Receive a tax refund of e50 as a YMCA benefactor’. In this way we will be reminding players that they can contribute and help the Maltese society through tax refunds given when NGOs are helped”, Sabrina stated. Jean Paul Mifsud, Chairman YMCA Homeless continues: “Monopoly Malta was one of the first businesses to be part of the new campaign 365 launched by YMCA Homeless during the previous weeks. Companies joining the 365 campaign donate one euro a day towards the professional services and day to day running of YMCA Homeless Shelters which accommodate more than twenty homeless children and families daily. YMCA Malta is proud to be associated to Malta’s first board game Monopoly Malta and we hope other businesses will follow this initiative and continue to assist Maltese NGOs”.

During these last weeks orders through Freephone 8007-3787 have been coming in whilst Monopoly Malta fans also ordered their Monopoly Malta boards through the Monopoly Malta PO Box. So far, 2,500 orders have arrived from the Maltese public, a phenomenal amount especially due to the fact that the board was not yet in Malta.
