Muriel Calleja
10/9/1938 - d.1/12/1998
It is already 10 years since Our Lord decided that you had had enough suffering and called you back to Him and Eternal Rest. We miss you as if it were yesterday and talk about you all the time as though you were in the next room. Your presence among us all is still felt very strongly.
We miss mostly the days when we came to Malta so many times with our children and arrived at your house without any notice and, no matter what time it was, you were always ready to greet us with that beautiful smile of yours, coming down the stairs to welcome us with, “Aye, Jo” or “Aye, Sol” with a prompt kind invitation to stay for lunch. Oh how we miss your cooking! Even though we were all taught how to cook by the same hand of our dearest Ma, Molly, our cooking will never taste as good, nor as delicious as yours! Even the simple ‘Hobz biz-Zejt’ which you always prepared for us all after swimming, was simply delicious!
You were the epitome of the very best Mother (and we are quite sure your darling children, Meinrad, Patrick and Clarissa, will agree with us), housewife, hostess and most of all “best big sister” to us all. You always had time to sit and listen to our problems and offer us advice, caring and being thoughtful. You were absolutely unique and we all loved you so very much. When you were married, the newspaper who featured your wedding article referred to you as ‘One of the most beautiful girls in Malta’. How true that is!
We shall never forget you. You were much too young to leave us all behind. Now we can only envy you when we know that where you are, you are seeing such beautiful things in the company of Our Lord and all who we knew and loved so much. May you always rest in peace our darling Muriel.
Your loving sisters Josianne and Solange, and brother Gerald.
