Maltese Politics

Malta Independent Tuesday, 2 December 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Why does everything in Malta have to revolve around politics? If the road at Ghadira is really needed in order to save the beach then it must be built, but if this road is going to be built for political reasons then scrap the plan.

If this road has to be built, why can’t it be built further inland so it won’t interfere with the Ghadira Reserve, the Foresta 2000 and the Danish Village?

When an important conference was coming to Malta, a new bypass was built from the airport all the way to Ghajn Tuffieha just to impress the visitors.

Constructive criticism is always healthy and there are always pros and cons on everything. Leave politics out of this project and do what’s good for the beach and the environment.

My only suggestion is that if this road is to be built, build the new road a bit further inland and make it a four lane bypass with accessible exits to the beach so they don’t have to redo this all over again 30 years from now. Maybe the shows Xarabank and Bondi plus should entertain the idea of having some experts discuss the proposed road on their show, pros and cons!

Ghadira is one of the most beautiful and most sought after beaches in Malta and should be protected at all costs, but leave politics out of it. If the NGOs are so worried about the environment, why aren’t they opposing all the construction being built all over Malta?

What if there is the chance that the beach is eroding while we do nothing? The NGOs should do everything they can to save this beautiful beach; after all it is a part of Malta’s Heritage.
