Reference is made to the renewal of water mains undertaken by the Water Services Corporation in Triq il-Kbira, Triq Sant’ Anna and Triq il-Parrocca, Mellieha (Trenches in Mellieha, Jo Said, TMID, 4 December)

With a view to explain the works involved, the local council called a meeting between the responsible Water Services Corporation official, the residents and shop owners. The council officials present made it a point that the duration of works should not exceed three weeks and definitely the project was to be concluded by early December.

Pressure was also exerted on both the contractor, as well as on the corporation, in order that they abide by the established time frame. This however was not observed, due to various stoppages. At times it was difficult to determine who of the two was defaulting.

The council deplores such stoppages that affect thoroughfares within the urban core of Mellieha and calls upon both parties to expedite to eliminate further inconveniences to residents and the business community.
