From Mr P. P. Dingli
Mr Zarb suggests that all society’s problems can be solved by spiritual renewal. Let’s look at this more closely
He implies that family breakdown is not due to an issue of incompatibility but a lack of faith.
He suggests that teenage pregnancies are not due to a lack of education but a lack of faith.
Teenage “hard” (sic) drug abuse is not due to disillusionment with society but a lack of faith. I wonder if he has an opinion on “adult drug taking”.
He goes on to say that financial difficulties due to utility costs and basic commodity increases is not due to greed by corporate monopolies but a lack of faith. And the best of his list: “Having recourse to occult practices such as mediums and fortune-tellers and other relatively new occult practices such as Emo-Gothic, which are all used as a means of escaping reality.” Escaping reality? Let me get this right. He wants us to have a spiritual renewal and face reality. OK, let swap the occult practices for sanctioned practices.
Mr Zarb is deluded if he believes that a spiritual renewal will solve “our land’s” needs. What all “lands” need is to build a community and stop putting our faith in a system of belief that has been the cause of so much suffering. I suggest we need a community renewal rather than a spiritual one.
