World Aviation Group Takes steps towards reducing its carbon footprint

Malta Independent Tuesday, 9 December 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Following the successful launch and implementation of the internal waste management initiative, World Aviation Group (WAG) launched the “Greener Living Project” last week.

This is a project aimed at making WAG carbon neutral by encouraging employees to undertake various initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint consistently.

The first initiative was launched last month to kick-off the project. Most of WAG employees and senior management in collaboration with the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs and the Santa Lucia mayor, participated in a clean-up and tree planting activity at the outskirts of Santa Lucia. Parallel to this initiative, an energy saving campaign was launched where some tips on how to save energy were shared with all the employees whilst revealing various initiatives that WAG is planning to undertake in the coming months such as the installation of photo-voltaic panels for energy generation. Moreover, a committed Green Team has been set up involving employees from all areas of the business, with the aim of developing and managing environmental initiatives.

Chief Executive Officer Dominic Attard commented on the project: “Our commitment is to instill awareness towards a better environment. We can all play a part in reducing our carbon footprint at work. Raising awareness through events is a great way of getting everyone within our organisation to play their part and champion change”

WAG is a joint venture between Malta’s flag carrier, Air Malta plc and Cassar Aviation Services Pty Ltd of Australia. Formed in Malta in 1989, the Group started as a General Sales Agency representing several international airlines in Malta. Over recent years this business developed into a global GSA network. WAG provides other services mainly multi-lingual Contact Centre services through its subsidiary company, Centrecom and BPO/ Back Office operations including Revenue Accounting. The Group employs 160 staff.

WAG is committed to be at the forefront in the local community by endorsing a strong corporate responsibility to the community environment. “A little effort makes a big difference” is the main message leading these environmental initiatives.
