Women Mention HSBC as a workplace favourite

Malta Independent Wednesday, 10 December 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A study conducted by The Times of London showed that HSBC is one of the top 50 companies where women want to work.

The survey asked organisations with more than 1,000 employees in the UK to submit details in three key areas of activities: how top female talent is recruited; how they retain and develop female employees, support their careers and help balance outside responsibilities; and give some examples of their successful role models.

This is the third year The Times ran the Top 50 Where Women Want to Work which has become a trusted reference for women seeking the right employer. Organisations are judged on the choices and challenges offered to female employees. HSBC’s Mentoring Me programme, My Job Share register and general commitment to flexible working, along with the Women’s Development Association which supports women in managerial grades to reach more senior executive positions in the bank, all helped in ranking HSBC among women’s Top 50 favourites.

“This is good news for HSBC not only in the UK but also in other networks, like Malta, where HSBC has introduced initiatives and family-friendly policies to favour a work-life balance,” said Mark Sims, HSBC Malta’s head of human resources. “HSBC acknowledges women’s possession of skills and talent and their parallel need to rear children and look after the family. For this reason, employment policies are made to accommodate these needs to attract, develop and retain a skilful female workforce within the bank and at the same time ensure the smooth running of our business.”
