I guess I will always remember the date of the demise of Evelyn Bonaci, which is the same date when my mother died.

More so because they were very much alike but while the good Mrs Bonaci was a public figure, known to everyone because she was the founder of the MLP women’s section and was elected to parliament, my mother was the president of the women’s committee in Valletta.

Mum used to rave on about Mrs Evelyn Bonaci every time the subject of politics came up. I never got tired of hearing of the good works of Mrs Bonaci, and how she defended workers and their families.
