We have had a series of accidents involving the use of firearms in the past weeks, and it is worrisome to think that there are so many weapons around.

I do not want to go into the merits of the incidents that have taken place. That is up to the police to investigate and for the courts to judge.

But society must ask itself why so many people today possess firearms. The government must also consider drafting legislation which aims to exercise a better control over the sale and possession of weapons.
