It is the strangest thing for a person who works with a newspaper to write a letter in the letters to the editor section.
However, sometimes it is only through a letter that one can express proper gratitude. I was recently away visiting family for Christmas in the UK. In the meantime, the road I live in, Hope Street, is getting a proper facelift to celebrate its status as a street of village character in Mosta. While I was away, the mains sprung a leak from the outside leading in (thankfully before it passes through the meter). I returned to find I had no water and called the Water Services Corporation at 8.15pm. Their evening shift finishes at 9pm. Within 10 minutes, two guys came and sized up the problem, telling me they could sort the problem out temporarily and would return the next morning. I told them morning was out of the question and it would have to be after 6pm. They told me they would speak to their boss who was to phone me the next day to give me an appointment with them again. I did not really expect the call, but true to their word, the phone rang at about 9am to book me in for 6 pm. At 6pm, on the dot, the same two lads came and sorted the problem out. They even replaced dodgy old piping and made the main connection a bit more pleasing on the eye. They were courteous, quick, friendly and they even wiped their feet. These guys were doing this on the night before New Year’s Eve and they even gave a bit of friendly advice on how to look out for problems with the meter connection.
Thanks WSC, you really deserve a pat on the back from the top levels down in this case.
