Bring Back the bumps

Malta Independent Sunday, 4 January 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I refer to Phil Pryce’s letter entitled “First the bumps, now for the potholes” (ToM, 9 December 2008).

It is clear that being a non-resident of Naxxar, Mr Pryce does not appreciate the positive impact on pedestrian safety that the sleeping policeman in Naxxar Square had for residents.

Now, with the bumps removed, vehicles just shoot across the square, blatantly ignoring the go slow sign. This is a danger to pedestrians. People crossing the streets on the sides of the church are also in danger as vehicles now just zoom round the bends.

When the bumps were removed I wrote to the Naxxar local council to inquire the reason for doing so. Very typically, I failed to get a reply, confirming that there was no valid reason for this decision. God forbid that the council will now have to give an account for any serious accident suffered by our children as a consequence of its decision.
