I have followed the arguments about homework during holidays through the various letters that have appeared in your newspaper over the past few weeks.

One point that has not been mentioned so far is that it seems that the number of holidays that children are getting over Christmas is far more than they should be getting. Why should students get more than two weeks of holidays during the Christmas period? Why should schools stop a whole week before Christmas and start a whole week after New Year?

I just wonder why the education authorities allow this to happen. And, mind you, this is happening not only in Church or private schools, but also in government schools.

Teachers complain that their profession is the most stressful, but I would give anything to have the number of holidays that they enjoy throughout the year.

They certainly have far more than the 24 we common mortals have to spread out over the whole year, not to mention the fact that they work six-hour days.

I just wonder when schools will remain open till 5pm and teachers kept there to take care of the students so as to encourage more women to work. As things stand now, most women opt to stay at home because of the schooling hours.
