After telling us that she had followed the arguments about homework, Ms Caruana wrote about everything except... homework (TMID, 7 January). She just told us that teachers have many holidays. And who is she to decide about the number of holidays any employee may have? What have the holidays to do with homework? Or does Ms Caruana want the teachers to have fewer holidays so that she may have more holidays?

That is what her last lines suggest. But let’s come back to the argument. Why should teachers get more than two weeks’ holidays for Christmas? Had she checked the facts she would not have dropped such a clanger! In fact, government schoolteachers had exactly 16 days of holiday, five of which were holidays even for “us common mortals” which means that teachers had only 11 days of holiday more, and not 15 as suggested by Ms Caruana.
