The transfer of Sliema Wanderers and international midfielder Roderick Briffa to champions Valletta, which had been in the offing for the past days, was yesterday finalised as the two club presidents reached a final agreement.
Speaking during the television programme ‘MFA Magazine’, Sliema president Stephen Abela confirmed that yesterday Valletta signed Briffa on a four and half-year contract.
Striker Ian Zammit, who was being considered to join Sliema on loan as part of the deal, will however remain with the Citizens on the insistance of Valletta coach Paul Zammit.
Briffa will most probably make his debut in the Valletta shirt in Sunday’s match against Tarxien Rainbows
Meanwhile other Premier League club Qormi FC yesterday announced that they have agreed terms for the transfer of defender and Malta international Stephen Wellman from Marsaxlokk.
Wellman, who has been lately dropped from the club squad and is at present serving suspension imposed by the Marsaxlokk committee, is expected to sign a three-year deal with the newly promoted club today.
In fact yesterday Wellman also trained with Qormi and is expected to be included by coach Jesmond Zerafa for next Sunday’s Premier League match against Msida SJ.
Wellman’s experience may be of great help to Qormi in their bid to stay in the top flight.
