Attack On teachers

Malta Independent Tuesday, 20 January 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Once again, I have to stand up and publicly condemn Maria Caruana’s attack (TMID, 14 January) on my profession and on my colleagues, the teachers. Her letter contains very serious allegations which, however, I will not even bother to prove wrong. It is useless even to attempt to answer the various points raised by Ms Caruana in her long-winded letter, since she appears to be so steadfastly against teachers and is jealous of the profession.

However, as I have often told those who are so disgustingly against the teaching profession: let Ms Caruana go to university, get a teaching degree and join the teaching profession and then she, too, can start enjoying the great benefits and fringe-benefits that go with teaching. Salary and all.

Once again, Ms Caruana, do not show how much you are tired of your responsibilities as a parent. Your children are yours and it is your responsibility to guide them with their homeworks, etc... We, teachers, will not do the work that you are supposed to be doing!

If teachers have such wonderful conditions as you mention, Ms Caruana, what’s keeping you from joining our gravy train? Please, answer.
