From Mr J. Portelli
I fully support the Birzebbuga mayor in opposing further expansion of the Freeport, especially in the direction of Wied il-Buni. Where the beauty of “Pretty Bay” is concerned, any incursions by “profit-driven projects” should be discouraged and opposed with the same zeal and determination.
One example is the proposed revival and redevelopment of the now defunct water polo pitch. What I suggest by way of a facelift for Pretty Bay, and a partial return to its intrinsic beauty, is to limit any further incursion by the Freeport, doing away with the water polo pitch and demolishing the shell jetty.
The last two are the biggest eyesores of all and they also obstruct the view all the way to Delimara, at least from the point of view of a person sitting on a bench in front of the “pagoda”.
In the same vein, the “cages” built on the seafront do nothing to improve the situation, as neither does that hideous new block of flats near the bus terminal. It’s all or nothing.
