I can’t understand the line of reasoning behind Daphne Caruana Galizia’s argument with regard to the negative connotations of odd numbers (Seven steps to a miracle, TMID, 22 January).

She had a good argument – when she said that it is easy to make a list of what to do but more difficult to implement it – and yet she went on to spoil it by claiming that Labour’s statement was wrong because it has “seven” suggestions.

Has the Nationalist Party never made seven, nine, 11 proposals?

She says that seven reminds one of the seven sins or the dance of the seven veils. But seven is also the number of sacraments, the number of sayings of Christ on the Cross and the number of virtues.

And, knowing that Daphne is not into religion, seven is also the number of days of the week, the number of musical notes and the wonders of the world. It is a number that is used a lot in literature, drama and film too.

Daphne is known for finding fault with the Labour Party whatever it does. If the PL had come up with 14, 25 or 90 proposals, I am sure she would have found fault with those numbers too.
