You wrote in From faith to confidence, (TMID, 10 February), that Malta cannot afford another shipwreck.

It was the day when Malta was celebrating the feast of St Paul, and it must have somehow been his intervention that, just a day later, the Prime Minister and the Church finally woke up to the people’s pleas and shelved the project to expand the St John’s Co-Cathedral museum plans.

That would have certainly been another shipwreck for Malta, possibly even the collapse of the jewel that is St John’s, with its historical, cultural and religious meaning.

I do not know why it took so long for the authorities to realise that the project, had it gone through, would have meant millions of euros to create what has aptly been described as a quarry beneath the heart of the capital city.

Thank God – and thank St Paul – that the authorities finally came to their senses.
