There is nothing that Dr Josie Muscat of Azzjoni Nazzjonali (TMID, 23 February) can do until the Maltese people accept the fact that there is a problem about illegal immigration.

I guess this problem doesn’t seem to affect everybody and therefore they don’t care. As I have written in the past, unless these things happen in their backyards they choose to ignore the problem and won’t admit that there is a problem.

I agree with Dr Muscat 100 per cent but you don’t have to convince me; been there, done that. Yes, an emergency should be declared, but even the government seems to have a deaf ear to what’s going on around them.

Maybe they are looking for votes instead of looking out for the Maltese citizens. The Maltese people need to be made aware of how grave the situation is and how much worse it’s going to get if these illegal immigrants keep coming by the hundreds.

Malta has become like a one gallon can trying to hold five gallons of water.

I suggested to Lou Bondi to have a debate about this situation. Invite the political leaders to debate this on Maltese TV. Maybe Xarabank can do the same. This issue has to be brought out in the open.

Maltese people travel a lot and they can see what’s going on in other countries, like the USA, Britain, France etc and if it could happen to them imagine how easy it is to happen in Malta.

You can’t stay in denial forever. Malta has to act now; it might already be too late.

Why do you think the other countries don’t want to take any of the illegal immigrants?

The Maltese people have worked and fought very hard for what they have, it’s a shame to lose it all because of illegal immigration. The world economy is bad enough and even though it hasn’t affected Malta yet, what happens if and when it does?
