Athletics At KMS Skolasport

Malta Independent Friday, 27 February 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

KMS Skolasport is currently training 18 young aspiring athletes. During each Athletic session the participants perform different types of activities, which help them to raise their self-esteem and confidence levels and at the same time provide enjoyment.

KMS Skolasport, organised by the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport and sponsored by Kellogg’s, is holding 90-minute sessions in Athletics every Saturday morning between 9am and 10.30am at the Marsa Sports Complex.

“Students enjoy the drills, the circuit exercises for a particular event and the conditioning exercises which make the session varied and exciting,” said Gwen Fava, who is coaching the group in Athletics. “The participants have shown progress throughout the course. They improved their overall fitness, in particular flexibility and stamina.”

Athletics helps participants not only to develop their basic sport skills, but tends to help them improve their mental and physical fitness as well as their social and emotional growth. Although athletics is an individualistic sport, it also gives participants enjoyment when they work as a group.

Three former students from KMS Skolasport have pursued specific athletics disciplines and now compete on a national level.

The KMS Skolasport is the starting point for many Maltese children in their discovery and enjoyment of sport. This is why Kellogg’s, the world’s leading producer of breakfast cereal, is the official sponsor of Skolasport for ten consecutive years.
