I would like to commend the editorial It’s not enough (TMID, 25 February). Finally an editor has had the courage to come out in the open and refer to the very seriousness of the illegal immigration problem in Malta. It is time for all the Maltese media to show how serious this problem is. I also applaud the few brave politicians speaking out about this invasion and finally admitting to the problem.

Malta is a very small island being invaded with all these illegal immigrants, and very little space to accommodate them. This little island has always been overcrowded by the Maltese themselves and the only safety valve was emigration. We just cannot take any more illegal arrivals and it’s starting to show.

Finally, and I mean finally, citizens are starting to understand how grave this situation is. It’s like a cancer, it gets worse as time passes unless stopped at the early stages and, as one friend told me, it might already be too late.

I don’t believe so, not if everybody comes together and does something about it. I am glad that The Malta Independent is taking this problem out into the open and I hope every other medium does the same, whether it be, newspaper, TV or radio. I encourage the politicians, no matter what party affiliation, to come and speak out, put Malta and the Maltese first.
