Appreciation: Mario Borg

Malta Independent Wednesday, 4 March 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

From the management, staff, coaches and players of Luxol Sports Club.

The directors, management, staff, coaches and players of Luxol Sports Club have been deeply saddened by the passing away of Mario Borg on12 February.

We have not only lost a dedicated colleague, but football in Malta has lost a true friend. Mario joined Luxol in 2002 and was instrumental in helping to set up the administrative sector that was to serve as a platform on which our club could continue to expand its activities in line with the infrastructural development program that was happening at the time.

Mario went about his business in a quiet, dedicated and unassuming manner that belied his gifted administrative skills. He was everybody’s friend and was always there when you needed him – nobody could have asked more from Mario, but if they did, Mario could be relied on to deliver.

Mario was a leader who understood what real leadership is all about – he took responsibility. Mario lived his life by example – he was not after prestige, power or status – he recognised problems as challenges and worked towards any organisation’s well-being and growth, and changed it for the better. His untiring work within the Youth FA and other football nurseries in Malta is his legacy. By all means, a man for all seasons and reasons.

On behalf of everyone at Luxol Sports Club, and on behalf of the whole Maltese football community, we would like to say ‘Thank you, Mario, for your support, and for your love and devotion to the game – we cherish and appreciate all that you have done. We miss you.’

In celebration of Mario’s life, Luxol Sports Club will in future be organising a yearly football festival for Maltese youths and nurseries at the Luxol Stadium.

Mario will remain in our hearts forever.
