I write with reference to the letter Tell it to the marines, (Marita Pace, TMID, 7 March).
Ms Pace seems to be one of many who do not know much on what the European Parliament actually consists of.
For Ms Pace’s information, there are parties and groups within this Union who are actually euro critics. They even lobby, within the same EP, against this institution and against their country’s membership.
Does Ms Pace know this? If not, it’s not really her fault. The fault lies within MIC, which Ms Pace praises for the information it gave out. If, on the other hand, Ms Pace knows that there are euro critic groups within the EU, I ask why is she “surprised” with Sharon’s candidature?
Does Ms Pace accept the fact that even within the EU institutions there are people who do criticise? In fact, does she believe in the freedom of speech that the EU boasts about? Or does she want only people who say “yes” to anything that the EU says? Those are the real “puppets”, Ms Pace!
Ms Pace believes that, “those who are going to contest in this election should believe in the EU, no more no less!”
Well, that’s her problem. We believe in freedom of speech. We believe in criticism. That’s why we will be successful!
Ms Pace also declared that, “The citizens were well informed about the EU membership because of the MIC...” Yes, tell that to the bird trappers, hunters, farmers, all importers of second-hand vehicles, etc. In fact, tell that to the marines.
