Compleet overhauled the champions at the top of the standings, and they are now level on points with BUPA, with their only loss coming against each other.
Compleet established a strong, early lead, and then administered the rest of the match, pushing up their advantage a little further in each of the remaining sessions.
Qormi acquitted themselves well, given the state of the side nowadays, and the same five players started and ended the match.
Compleet had Addison Bonnici and Etienne Bezzina missing the game, and Qormi’s jinx continued. For this game they had no less than six regular players missing for one reason or another, and their bench was full of young, inexperienced players.
Compleet, as expected, went out to secure a good, early advantage. Omar Said began with a trey, and although Karl Borg stopped them, on a 6-0 scoreline, Compleet went on with another 12-0 run, with all their five players putting their names on the score sheet.
Qormi fared better in the latter stages, ending the session with a couple of treys, from Antoine Costa and Karl Borg, but Michael Naudi replied on several occasions for Compleet, to keep them on a sound lead.
In the second quarter Compleet’s first hoops found a reply on two occasions from Qormi. Kristin Baldacchino put in a couple of hoops to increase Compleet’s advantage.
Qormi recovered, midway through the session, to post a 6-0 run, but Baldacchino sank a trey, and Compleet went on to a 10-3 run, with a further David Camilleri trey, and went in at the interval on a 41-24 lead.
After the break Compleet were still forcing the pace, as they began with a Julian Naudi trey, and went on to an 8-0 run, but Qormi’s response was immediate, and they posted a 7-2 run of their own.
Then it was a case of Qormi replying to Compleet’s points, through Karl Borg and Anton Axiaq. Compleet held on to their sound advantage, on a 57-38 score, after three sessions.
The scoring dwindled a bit at the start of the final period, with the result in no doubt. Compleet increased their lead further, putting in a 9-4 run, but Qormi came back, with two more treys by Costa, and more points from Axiaq, in a similar 9-4 run. In the last stages Compleet extended their lead, with points from three different players.
