I am not against speed cameras, but it seems here that the main reason for installing these cameras is in getting money out of our pockets. Why we do not have a verbal warning on our first offence, and together with this note, receive instructions about over speeding, about our safety, and warned not to do that again because otherwise we will be heavily fined?

Further to this, our safety is not safeguarded only by not overspeeding, but by having good roads. No other European country has dangerous roads like we have in Malta.

As soon as ADT was born, we started to experience increases in licences and in fines.

We began to pay more, but the safety on our roads deteriorated.

What about parking space for our vehicles? Is our government doing its utmost to allocate enough space in our roads to park our cars? To make matters worse, some local councils came up with the idea of creating a blue and green line parking for their residents, thus preventing other drivers who are paying the same licence, from parking in these areas.

The local authorities know that this is illegal, but they continue to fine drivers, and the only aim is to fork out unjust fines to those who are afraid to go and contest them in court.

I contested four illegal fines like these, and won them all.

Yes, I want speed cameras. I, want to see more safety on our roads, but this comes first and foremost by having good roads and with ample space for parking. After all, this is what we expect from our local authorities.
