KMS Skolasport, organised by the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport and sponsored by Kellogg’s, offers football as one of its key disciplines to seventy-five boys and three girls aged between 11 and 14. They attend sessions which are held every Saturday morning at the Marsa Sports Complex and St Benedict’s College in Kirkop.
Young footballers who train at KMS Skolasport prefer mostly the shooting exercises. They also enjoy and look forward to the football games which they play at the end of each session.
As part of their basic training, the participants practice different drills to develop fitness and strength. They start the sessions with a warm-up, stretching exercises, passing, trapping, shooting, perform team shape exercises and learn skills in coordination. The sessions generally round off with a supervised game to improve their ability.
The talented footballers are generally encouraged to join a youth football nursery to further their training and skills. “Although there are Youth Nursery clubs in almost every village, KMS Skolasport has continued to register an increase in the number of participants. This shows that our participants enjoy practicing their favourite sport in a healthy and fun atmosphere,” said Tanya Zahra, at KMS Skolasport.
Kellogg’s, the world’s leading producer of breakfast cereal, sponsors KMS Skolasport and its initiatives to implement its philosophy and encourage young people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
