I write in reference to Prof. Pierre Mallia’s article Medical treatment of illegal immigrants (TMID, 18 March).

This is one of the best articles I have seen in any Maltese media. At least Prof. Mallia is fair and honest in what he says. As far as the right of the government to check each illegal immigrant, I do think that considering that these immigrants are entering the island illegally, and the fact they are coming from Africa, which has the largest number of people suffering from HIV, one has to protect the Maltese citizen in the process.
