We are extremely concerned about what is happening on the promenade of one of our most popular seaside resorts: Xlendi.
Someone is chopping down the Tamarisk trees that provide visitors the much-appreciated shade in the summer months. Not only have the authorities allowed the cutting of the trees on the seafront, so that the restaurant and bars can replace them with huge umbrellas, they have been ignoring the dying trees on the upper promenade.
We really wonder what it needs to have those trees back, which give Xlendi a luxuriant touch.
Do we have to accept acts of vandalism committed by insane people who cut or burn the scarcely growing trees?
What about the Eco-island project for Gozo? Without action, this will never be reality...
Why does tree planting take place only in Malta, while in Gozo they decimate the trees?
We keep hoping that one day the local councils will wake up and look after their natural environment as a basis for the welfare of its citizens.
