Representatives of Alternattiva Demokratika met a delegation of the Cooperatives Commission and appealed to the government to give more help and incentives to cooperatives for the creation of job opportunities.
AD’s representatives were chairperson Arnold Cassola and the spokesperson for social and economic development, Michael Briguglio.
Prof. Cassola expressed the Green Party’s appreciation of the work done by cooperatives.
“Malta should be proud of the fact that Maltese cooperatives can be found in various commercial and social fields, including fair trade, transport, media and communications, management consultancy, financial advisory services, art and architectural restoration, archaeology, handicrafts and specialised services for persons with special needs,” he added.
“AD is supporting the appeal of European Green MEP Caroline Lucas, who also leads the Green Party of England and Wales, and who has spoken in defence of co-operatives across Europe by appealing to the European Commission not to introduce any rulings that undermine the unique legislative and financial structure of all co-operative enterprise”, added Prof Cassola.
