Malta Independent Saturday, 4 April 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

In 1986 Pope John Paul II dedicated Palm Sunday to young people.

Tomorrow, the Church will be celebrating the 24th World Youth Day. It is the Archbishop’s wish to meet young people during this special day. Young people are at the heart of the diocesan pastoral plan and during his episcopate, Monsigneur Paul Cremona OP has always sought to be present with young people, fostering close ties by living together with them various experiences, positive and otherwise, in their life.

Tomorrow the Archbishop will be celebrating World Youth Day in a liturgy at Sliema to which all young people are invited to join. The event, which will commence at 6.45pm with a walk along the promenade at Sliema seafront from the Nazzarenu Church to the grounds of St Patrick’s Salesian School where mass will be celebrated at 7.30pm.

This celebration is part of the journey which the Church is undertaking with young people on the theme chosen by Pope Benedict XVI for 2009: “Our hope is in the living God” from St Paul’s letter to Timothy. This event is co-ordinated by the Diocesan Youth Commission (KDZ).

Liturgy animation is commissioned to the young people at the Salesian Oratory in Sliema.
