The Dance Workshop is happy to present its 10th annual dance production Dreams and Resolutions which will be held at St Agatha’s Auditorium on 7 and 8 April.
The Dance Workshop will be starting the evening with an adapted version of the famous ballet – The Sleeping Beauty.
Fairies, courtiers and nymphs are some of the magical characters bringing to life the story of a young princess, Aurora, who has been cursed by the wicked Carabosse.
Soloists from The Dance Workshop will be performing the original choreography while the children’s dances have been suitably adapted for the younger dancers. Pamela Kerr leads the cast as Aurora and her gallant prince is young upcoming Keith Micallef. Christina Aquilina is the beautiful Lilac Fairy while Karl Cini will take on the role of the wicked Carabosse.
The second half of the programme takes on a more professional look with performances by senior students and dancers from The Dance Workshop. Lighting design is in the capable hands of Francesca Abela Tranter together with stage projections by photographer John Grech, costume design by Maria Pisani, Simona Mamo and Ernest Camilleri who transform the choreographers’ interpretations of Dreams and Resolutions. We are transported to distant Argentina (Soñando con Argentina) and also in time to the plight of the suffragettes (Iron Jawed Angels) and to Man’s fight against slavery (I have a dream). La Paz depicts the choreographers’ search for inner peace.
The final number for the evening, Desired Dreams, is inspired by the works of Bob Fosse and captures the personal drive and desire to make dreams come true.
The programme, which once again promises to be of very high technical and artistic standards, will be a wonderful night out for everybody, both young and senior dance aficionados and also newcomers to the theatre. Tickets at e9 and e12 are available from The Dance Workshop, Gzira (afternoons/evenings) and The Dance Studio, Kappara (shop hours). Ticket hotline in 9942-9233 or 2124-2465.
