Restoration Fund For St Anne’s altarpiece, Fort St Angelo

Malta Independent Sunday, 5 April 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Last Saturday’s inauguration of the art exhibition “The Three Cities – Eve of a Renaissance” at the Martime Museum in Vittoriosa not only served as a call for the preservation and enhancement of the beauty of the Three Cities but also saw the launch of Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar’s fund to restore the 18th century altarpiece of St Anne’s Chapel at St Angelo.

FAA coordinator Astrid Vella thanked the artists for their generosity in kindly agreeing to donate part of their takings to this cause and spoke of the wonderful restoration work being carried out by Fra John Critien, Knight Resident at Fort Saint Angelo. Ms Vella explained that while the knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta dedicate their resources to running medical and humanitarian projects on every continent of the world, FAA is happy to be able to support them with the restoration of the beautiful wooden high-relief sculpture of St Anne with the infant Mary, which is in a poor state of repair.

The art exhibition and collection of funds will continue at the Maritime Museum until 12 April.
